Father follows his advice,
As Racheal Schmitz made plans for life after high school, her father, Jay, offered her some advice. Become a nurse.
Racheal listened, and in the spring of 2008 she graduated from the U. Nursing Program on the Pierre campus. But what she didn't know then was that her father would soon follow in her footsteps. Jay Schmitz is excited to start his education at the new Capital University Center facility.
"I realized nursing could fit my own plans of having a rewarding career while remaining on the family farm in rural South Dakota, a place we truly love," he said. He expects to graduate in 2012 and seek employment near his farm in rural Herrick, South Dakota.
As for his experience in USD's nursing program in Pierre, Schmitz said: "Pierre students are really fortunate to be able to attend classes in this beautiful new facility. It is also an advantage to be within walking distance of clinical."
