Bio:
I graduated with an Associate's degree in Nursing from USD in 1999 and continued to complete my Bachelor's degree in nursing from SDSU in 2000. I began my nursing career as a psychiatric nurse and then moved on into cardiac stress testing, and medical/surgical nursing. Education has played a significant role in my professional life and I discovered great fulfillment in teaching others and being a role model for other nurses and nursing students. I made the decision to enter the educational arena and graduated with my master's in nursing education in Spring 2009 from SDSU while working as a nursing instructor for USD. I have presented at the Nurse Educator's Conference in the Rockies in Breckenridge, CO and at the NLN Summit in Phoenix, AZ. I have also presented and attended numerous nurse educator conferences since I have been teaching.
Teaching Interests:
I enjoy teaching in all learning environments but the simulation setting is both rewarding and challenging. I have had the opportunity to assist in developing and supporting the use of simulation in the USD nursing program. The growth of clinical reasoning and confidence is phenomenal in our nursing students.
Research Interests:
Research is an important area in the nursing profession to continually advance clinical practice but also continue progress in nursing education. Simulation in nursing education is widely recognized as an essential component in a nursing curriculum. Interprofessional simulation is a recent interest of mine related to the improvement of team communication and improvement of patient care. I will be attending an event in Philadelphia, PA to received a Certificate in Simulation in May 2012.
