Jodi Sutton Recognized for Student Leadership

Jodi Sutton, USD Nursing Class of 2011, was nominated by the faculty and leadership of USD Nursing and the School of Health Sciences as their candidate for the USD Academic Leadership Award.

Sutton is an exceptional young woman and a leader among her peers. Her positive attitude, motivation and self-direction for learning is evident, not only by her academic performance, but her involvement in a variety of University events in a leadership role. Sutton is the recipient of a list of academic scholarships and awards that include the SD Opportunity Scholarship and USD Promise Scholarship, The John Vucurevich Community Service Scholarship, the Marilyn Abraham Scholarship and ARCH (Avera McKennan Resources for Careers in Health) Scholarship.

Her service activities include coordination of a variety of events such as the Read Across America Day, Pi Beta Phi/Lambda Chi Alpha Haunted House and Champions are Readers. Sutton is also a USD student ambassador, president of the USD Student Nurse's Association, President of Pi Beta Phi and has been a board member for the planning committee of the USD/Clay County Relay for life for the past three years.

Nursing school is a busy time and nursing students are kept busy with their schedules of class work, clinicals and studies. Sutton has been busier than ever and stands above her peers as the selected nominee for the Academic Leadership Award.
