National Child Welfare Workforce Institute Grant

The Department of Social Work has received a federal Grant from the National Child Welfare Workforce Institute, an entity of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Children's Bureau in the amount of $110,000.00 per year for the next four years.

The purposes of the Child Welfare Trainee Project are: 

  1. Provides traineeship stipends to undergraduate, Bachelors of Science in Social Work (BSSW), majors at USD who are interested in working with children and families
  2. Create an educational program that increases the knowledge and skills of the BSSW graduates in addressing the diverse needs of children and families served by child welfare agencies in rural and Native communities
  3. Develop culturally responsive curricula that promote the incorporation of best-practices and leadership in child welfare

Grant funds may be used for the BSSW program only and are not available for use in the MSW program.
