Compass
According to Webster, a compass is a device for determining directions by means of a magnetic needle or group of needles turning freely on a pivot and pointing to magnetic north. A compass is an small instrument that is normally cylindrical with a needle that can point to North, East, South, or West.
A compass is an instrument that is used by many organizations. The military relies on the compass a great deal. Groups or individuals that use the compass include the Boy Scouts, 4-H, Explorers, and Spluenkers. The compass is widely used today.
The origin of the compass is in doubt but the man who invented the compass was probably Chinese, Arab, or European. The first compass mentioned and recorded was a lodestone needle mounted on a cork and allowed to float in a bowl of water.
