Microscope

Origin:  The exact invention of the microscope is not credited to any one person.  However, one of the earliest microscopes was made by Anton Van Leeuwenhoek at the end of the 17th century.  He completed this feat by grinding glass into a magnifying lens.  The viewing capacity was still limited, but organisms that had not yet been discovered were now able to be seen.  The microscope continued to be improved, and Robery Hooke eventually built a reflecting telescope.

Composition and Use:  Before microscopes, doctors and scientists could only observe with the naked eye.  The invention of the microscope triggered a huge advance in medicine and scientific technology.  There are many types of microscopes used for many purposes.  A few types are simple, compound, and electron.  Some of the uses of microscopes include magnifying organisms, finding and determining illnesses and viruses, curing diseases, and determining blood tests.
