Byzantine architecture came to a peak in the fourth century. The Church at Delphi played a very influential role with architecture at this time. Buildings were to reflect an environment close to spiritual presences, as well as evidence life filled with meaning and values.

Domes were the focal feature of Byzantine architecture. Elaborate depictions of the deity adorned each dome. The central dome was dedicated to God the Father along with the Angels and the Archangels, singing the praises of God.

Building materials included brick, the basic element of construction, as well as a mortar of sand and lime. Walls were carefully decorated with frescos and mosaics of the Saints and their lives.
