Raphael's School of Athens
This painting portrays an imaginary gathering of ancient
Greek philosophers and scientists. The work of art shows the
Renaissance respect for classical culture, and also how the
people turned to look at the world realistically rather than
through religious ideas. This was a very typical painting of the
Renaissance period.
