This detail from Michelangelo's Last Judgment shows a sinner being dragged down to Hell by demons. It exemplifies much of the fire-and-brimstone preaching done by parish priests of the time. This type of preaching was done partly to warn and scare a flock away from sin, and partially because many parish priests could not read the Bible, and damnation sermons were the easiest ones to fall back on.
