Knud
Knud, who is actually Ib Mogens Bech Christensen, represents the path that
many Danish people took during the Occupation. Knud began as a pacifist
student in Aalborg until he was convinced by his friends and the Danish
death he witnessed at the hands of German soldiers that the Germans posed
a serious threat to the future of Denmark. Almost overnight, Knud became
one of the first resistance leaders when he created the Churchill Club in
Aalborg and produced the cry that called for students and all Danish
people to rally against the Germans. After the Churchill Club, Knud
joined the active resistance and began to steal printing material for the
illegal presses and work on some small-time sabotage groups. He continued
to write for the "Frit Danmark" paper where he called for nationalism and
peace in Denmark (Thomas 156).
