The Moonshiners
Seeing the threat of German invasion, many Danes fled Denmark early. Many
of these people fled to neutral Sweden where they did not give up the
fight. A group called the Moonshiners occurred in Sweden and was made up
of these Danes who had fled early and desire to help their people. The
Moonshiners were responsible for all Danish resistance in Sweden which
acted as the "middle man" between Denmark and Britain. The Moonshiners
transferred information but mainly smuggled, or "moonshined" as they
called it, weapons and supplies into Denmark (Thomas 41). The
Moonshiners ran naval blockades in the Skagerrak and Katteget repeatedly
to deliver 100 tons of the total 1000 tongs of supplies and weapons
delivered by Britain to Denmark (Thomas 32).
