DENMARK
Denmark, a little country between Norway and Germany, believed in remaining neutral when conflicts arose in the years preceding the World War II. Denmark had remained neutral during World War I and thought that it could remain so during the World War II. Signing a non-aggression act with Germany in January 1939 was to have kept Denmark a neutral state. Denmark's views on neutrality would change as the Nazis took over Denmark as the Danish Resistance movement began.
Denmark and Germany fought border disputes in the past but had maintained peace from 1865 until German occupation. The 1864 war was fought over the border rights of Schleswig and Holstein which Denmark lost to Germany. The map below is an old map when Denmark had its largest land mass.
