The Princes
The Princes were a group of men set up by junior officers in the army and
navy intelligence services. While most military officers were complacent
to leave the Germans alone as long as the Germans left them alone, the
Princes were sensitive to the menace that Germany posed. Since Germany
left the military alone, the officers secretly and cautiously gathered
information on movements of German troops and ships and the building of
fortifications (Thomas 28). Through sources in Sweden, the Princes
sent their information to London which used it in further year to carry
out sabotage actions. Through the Princes, London first received accurate
information about the devastating V1 "flying bomb" that would cause mass
destruction if used against Britain (Thomas 30). Though the
Princes only lasted from 1939 until August 29, 1943, when the government
fell and Germany demilitarized Denmark, they provided the best
intelligence service and paved the way for many resistance groups.
