Smoke signals were the one of the earliest forms of long distance communication. But smoke signals were very limited in their use. They were mainly used for the purpose of warning others in nearby villages. The influence on community was that it was a quicker form of communication and therefore could save more lives. Instead of waiting for someone on horseback to eventually arrive, the smoke signals can immediately be seen, so faster action can be taken.
