How to Enter and Compete

Entry and Registration: Send the attached entry form with the nonrefundable $25.00 fee (cashier's check, certified check, or money order only) payable to Southwest Parks and Monuments Association. One entry form and fee are required for each entry. For team entries, use the name and signature of the team leader on the form. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older or submit under the name of an adult sponsor. Upon receipt of the completed entry form and fee, each entrant will become registered and a program packet will be mailed. The packet will contain paper reproducible drawings and a computer floppy diskette in the form that you request by checking the appropriate box on your entry form. The "Competition Rules" section of the design competition program, which will be forwarded to each registered competitor or team, contains a more complete description of the competition guidelines.


Submittals: Not more than two, 20" x 30" x 1/4" vertically oriented foamcore boards, with two-dimensional images only (paintings, photography, architectural or graphic illustrations and sketches, or computer-generated drawings) will be allowed. Submittals must include a design concept at general site and memorial site plan scales, one perspective drawing or sketch, and a written design statement. More detailed requirements are included in the "Submission Requirements" section of the design competition program.

Entries that do not comply with the rules, conditions, and mandatory requirements of the competition will be declared ineligible before judging.

Site Visits: Entrants are strongly encouraged to visit the site at any time. An orientation symposium for participants in the design competition will be held on September 7-9,1996, at Little Bighorn Battlefield, Crow Agency, Montana. Schedule:

Mailing of program packet begins August 1, 1996.

Symposium (optional event) at Little Bighorn on September 7-9, 1996.

Postmark deadline to register for competition is September 24, 1996. (Has now been extended to October 8, 1996)

Contestant questions must be received by October 1, 1996.

Printed response to contestant questions mailed by October 18, 1996.

Design submissions must be postmarked by January 13, 1997.

Winners announced and public exhibition opens February 1997.
