American Indian Studies Minor
Oscar Howe's Mythical Bird

The University of South Dakota offers a multi-disciplinary American Indian Studies curricula. The Indian Studies undergraduate minor explores American Indian culture and the history of Indian and non-Indian relationships. The program reinforces knowledge among Indian students about their historical and contemporary legacies while enhancing understanding among non-Indian students. The continued presence of Dakota/Lakota/Nakota people within the University of South Dakota community provides us with a tie to a history, language, land, and vital culture unique to the state and region.
A minimum of 18 hours selected from the core and elective courses listed below is required. Courses must be selected in three different disciplines. No more than one course (three semester hours) in Independent Study may be used to fulfill requirements for the minor.
