"The Ihanktonwan Community College in Marty, South Dakota, is currently seeking instructors for the Spring Semester 2000, for the below-listed courses. Instructors should have the minimum of a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree, in the prospective field of instruction. Most courses are taught in the evenings, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Assistant Professor

The Department of American Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, seeks to appoint an assistant professor in American Studies with a specialty in Native American studies, wideranging historical and interdisciplinary interests, and excellent abilities in multicultural analysis. The American Studies program at UCSC integrates humanistic and social scientific perspectives and brings them to bear on an examination of the U.S., both in its internal complexity and in its world context. In addition to teaching introductory and advanced courses in Native American studies, the successful candidate must be able to teach the introductory lecture course, America and Americans, and one or more methodologically oriented "Foundation courses for undergraduate American Studies majors (see information about these courses on the departmental website: http://humwww.ucsc.edu/americanstudies/index.htm.)

He or she will also be expected to participate actively in the inter-departmental Ph.D. program in Comparative American Studies and help develop and coordinate Native American studies on the campus as a whole.

RANK: Assistant Professor, Step I-III (tenure-track)

PAY: $43,100 - $48,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer Ph.D. by June 2000, must be in hand no later than June 30, 2001. Strong historically grounded research abilities in sociocultural analysis and multicultural studies, and particular competence in Native American studies. Excellence as a teacher of lecture and discussion courses at the introductory and advanced levels. Ability to work effectively with both undergraduate and graduate students. @dence of at working with students and colleagues from diverse social and cultural backgrounds. Particular attention will be given to candidates who have expertise in gender studies, sexuality studies, and/or media studies, and who can bring a transnational perspective to the study of the U.S. We are especially interested in candidates with advanced degrees in American Studies or related disciplines, but we also invite applications from other candidates with relevant interdisciplinary expertise that would advance the interests of American Studies at UCSC.

ETHNIC STUDIES DEPARTMENT
NATIVE AMERICAN STUDIES POSITION

The Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of California Berkeley invites applications for two tenured or tenure track appointments in Native American Studies, effective July 1, 2000. Candidates from various fields of expertise will be considered, but the department is especially interested in scholarly work and teaching experience in the areas of Native American history/ethnohistory and Native American Indian law, sovereignty, federal policies, and political science. In addition to teaching courses in Native American Studies, successful candidates will be expected to teach at least one course per year in the undergraduate comparative ethnic studies curriculum and/or the Graduate Program in Ethnic Studies. We welcome applications from both senior and junior scholars. Salary and rank of appointment will depend on candidates' qualifications. For junior appointments the Ph.D. must be completed by the time of appointment, which begins in the fall semester, 2000. The application deadline is December 7, 1999.
