Operating the Main Search Form

  1. Select a search option.
  2. Enter your search criteria.
  3. Select the number of records you want displayed per page.
  4. Click the search button.

Operating the Person Search Form

  1. Enter a first and/or last name.
  2. Choose to search for either informants or interviewers.
  3. Click the search button.
  4. To view the list of interviews by an informant/interviewer, click on the link next to their name in the Search Results area.
  5. If you want to perform another person search, simply fill out the form again and click the search button.

Performing a search with a list of Keywords

  1. Select a Subject or Ethnicity/Tribe search.
  2. Separate each "keyword" with either a forward or a backward slash.
  3. Click the Search button.

How to send feedback on the search engine

  1. Click on the "feedback form" link near the bottom of the search engine and documentation pages.
  2. Fill out the feedback form; make sure you fill in all fields.
  3. Click on the "Send my email!" button. If all went well, you will see a message saying that your email was sent.

Navigating the list of interviews

  • The number of records displayed per page depends on the value you selected off the main search form. The default value is 20 per page.
  • To view an interview's abstract, click on the "View Abstract" link.
  • To view more search results, simply use the Previous and/or Next links provided near the bottom of the page.

Printable Documents

  • To obtain a printed document of an interview's abstract, bring the abstract page up in your browser. Click on the "Printable Abstract" link. After the printable abstract opens in a new window, you can then use your browser's print command under the File menu to print the abstract.

  • To obtain a list of interviews matching your search criteria, perform a search to get a list of interviews. Click on the "Printable List of Search Results" link near the bottom of any page of search results. The printable list will open up in a new browser window. You can then use your browser's print command under the File menu to print the printable version.
