International Education Week Events:

Monday, October 26th:

7:00 p.m. - Go Global! International Panel Discussion, Farber Hall (Part of the Mondays in the Farb series)
Come learn about going global from past study abroad and National Student Exchange participants, as well as, from international students who are studying right here at USD. Panelist will discuss the challenges they overcame, differences they encountered, and benefits they gained from studying away.

Tuesday, October 27th:

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Career Development for International Students, MUC 211A
Resumes, interviews, vitas: Do you wonder what a job interview in the states is like? Not sure how to organize your work and education experiences? The Career Development Center is here to help! Learn more about the resources the CDC has to offer and how to market yourself.

Wednesday, October 28th:

2:00 - 3:00 p.m. - Faculty Development Session: Short-Term Faculty-Led Study Tours, MUC 212
Dr. Betty Smith, Political Science and Carol Geu, Art

A study tour is an academic course involving traditional classroom learning and experiential learning in an international setting.  Faculty led programs provide students first-hand opportunities to investigate other cultures, enhancing academic development. Professor's Smith and Geu will share their experiences leading a trip abroad in terms of curriculum development, classroom management, budget development, preparing students for the experience, and lessons learned. 

3:00 - 5:00 p.m. - Career Development for International Students, MUC 212

8:00 p.m. - Movie: Anvil! The Story of Anvil! (Canada), Farber Hall (Part of the International Film Series)
In the early 1980s, the Canadian metal band Anvil wrote the thrash blueprint for followers like Anthrax, Metallica, and Slayer. While those bands went on to become metal titans, Anvil faded into obscurity--so much that decades later, the band's core members work menial day-jobs even as they continue to churn out little-heard records and dream of rock-star success. Director Sacha Gervasi chronicles the duo's efforts to regain their '80s glory in the funny and touching documentary.

Thursday, October 29th:

10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. - Study Abroad & Engagement Fair, MUC main level
The Fair is a comprehensive exhibition of the study away program available to USD students. Come learn how you can spend a few weeks, a semester, and even a year studying away in another part of the US or the world. You can also learn about opportunities to engage through the Center for Academic Engagement.

1:00 p.m. - International Photo Contest winners announced, MUC main level
International students and study abroad/NSE alumni submitted entries for the International Photo Contest on October 9th. Come see who will win a $25 gift card for the best image from each category: food, scenic, and USD pride.

2:00 - 3:00 p.m. - Faculty Development Session:  Sailing the Isles of Greece! MUC 212
Dr. Clayton Lehmann, History, Dr. Brennan Jordan, Earth Science and Dr. Nelson Stone, Philosophy, Mount Marty Collage
Come learn more about one of the most unique study abroad experiences at the U.   The Isles of Greece! Based on sailing vessels, this interdisciplinary course takes students to Greece to study many aspects of this fascinating country, including history, archeology, literature, marine life and geology. 

5:00 - 7:00 p.m. - Home Again, Happy Hour (Study Abroad & NSE Alumni, faculty, & staff) Raziel's, downtown Vermillion
If you are a study abroad or NSE alum, you're invited to join the Global Learning staff, faculty, and fellow past participants for happy hour in downtown Vermillion. Come mingle, share stories, and learn how to leverage your study away experience for your future career success.  (beverages/snacks available for purchase)

Friday, October 30th:

6:30 p.m. - International Friends Potluck, Unity House
Whether it's your favorite dish from your home country, a delicious dessert your grandma used to make when you were younger, or a daring new recipe you've been waiting to try—bring a dish to share and enjoy a friendly dinner!
