Welcome to the University of South Dakota. Founded in 1862, the U is the state's oldest university.

The University of South Dakota has been accredited through the doctoral level by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association since 1913. Individual schools and departments have received additional accreditation from their appropriate professional organizations.

Requirements for International Student Admissions:
Students admitted to the University of South Dakota who are not citizens of the United States must meet the following standards:
  • Must have a 2.6 grade-point average from high school (based on a 4.0 point system)
  • Must be proficient in English [TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer), or 79 (Internet-based); or IELTS score of 6.0 or higher]
  • Must be financially self-supporting
  • Transfer students must have at least a 2.0 grade-point average from the school they are transferring from (based off credits that will transfer on a 4.0 point system)
