The Career Services & Alumni Newsletter is published weekly for the use of USD law students, alumni, and others who have been expressly granted reciprocity under policy arrangement with other law schools. The weekly e-mail publication serves as a clearinghouse for notices and employment postings. Alumni wishing to receive the newsletter should contact the Career Services Office and provide an e-mail address. The newsletter is sent to alumni via 'blind carbon copy' (bcc). The CSO respects the need for confidentiality and anonymity in employment matters.

Contact lscareer@usd.edu with alumni requests to subscribe (or unsubscribe) to the newsletter or to provide notice of address changes (including e-mail). Alumni are asked to please notify the CSO if you have found satisfactory employment, if you are seeking employment or a change in position, or with e-mail address changes.

Announcements of job positions, including internships, may also be sent to lscareer@usd.edu for dissemination to students and alumni. Please include: position title, applicants solicited (1st, 2nd, 3rd-year law students, those presently in clerkships, attorneys), location of the position, approximate starting date, name and address of employer and specific contact, what specific application materials should be sent, whether there is an application deadline or if position is 'open until filled,' minimum qualification, whether applications may be mailed, faxed, or e-mailed, salary and benefit information (or 'depending upon experience or qualification'), and other useful information. Contact lscareer@usd.edu with any questions.

On-Campus Interviews: Many employers each year contact or are invited by the Career Services Office to arrange on-campus interviews for summer internships and permanent positions. A fall intern fair, usually in October, focuses on second-year student internships. Firms, companies, organizations, and courts seeking third-year students for permanent or clerkship positions are always welcome to participate in on-campus recruiting that occurs throughout the year. Contact the Career Services Office to make arrangements.

Equal Opportunity Policy Notice: The School of Law provides equal opportunity for the study of law and entry into the legal profession in accordance with policies of the South Dakota Board of Regents, the governing body for higher education in South Dakota; the Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar of the American Bar Association, the accrediting agency for United States law schools; and the Association of American Law Schools, a nonprofit corporation that promotes improvement of the legal profession through legal education and of which the School of Law is a member. Potential employers are asked to acknowledge, in writing, receipt of the policy and that they will adhere to it.

People: Human resources add another important component to our services. The deans and faculty at the Law School are available and willing to provide advice and assistance to students in their job searches and career planning. The Career Services Office also has an alumni program where alumni across the country help provide information to students desiring to relocate to another area.

Career Track Services include information on Master of Laws (LL.M.) programs and positions in the career tracks of Indian law, environmental law, health law, banking law, international law, and intellectual law. Students visit with their faculty advisors to discuss specific curricular planning. Information is also available on alternative uses of a law degree. This information, in conjunction with the availability of joint-degree programs between the Law School and other colleges at The University of South Dakota, provides students an opportunity to explore and prepare for various careers.
