Lee Lab
Overview
The Lee Computer Lab, located in the USD School of Medicine Basic Sciences Building is a
state-of-the-art information technology center. Available by key pad to School of Medicine
faculty, staff, and students, the Lee Computer Lab provides convenient access to
workstations for group instruction and individual learning and experimentation.
Facilities
Eleven Pentium workstations are networked in a Novell Netware local area network and
through the campus Internet gateway, to the world. All workstations have SVGA 17 inch
color monitors, and sound cards. A video data projector may be attached to one of the
workstations or a laptop, and can be scheduled through Medical Student Affairs (677-5233)
or by request to Educational Media Services at 677-5411. Additional tables, chairs are
readily available for group or individual study. A Powermac 6100 with an attached laser
disc player and monitor is networked to the Internet. Dot matrix and laser printers are
attached to all workstations except for the Mac which has a dot matrix printer.
Software
All pc workstations have Windows 95 and the Microsoft Office Professional 97 suite of
software which includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point. TCP/IP network
access is provided by Cisco. Netscape 4.07 and Internet Explorer 4.1 are available as
graphical user interfaces to the Internet. Additional software needed by School of
Medicine faculty and staff can be installed as long as appropriate network licenses have
been purchased. A software load request form must be
completed and should be forwarded to the USDSM Health Sciences Libraries Technical
Services Unit. In general, software is loaded during summer and winter breaks so that
student work and staff productivity is not interrupted.
Services Provided
Lommen Health Sciences Library provides maintenance and support of the Lee Computer Lab.
Problems with hardware and software should be reported to 677-5118. Lommen Library also
provides group, class, and individual instruction in the use of lab software; call

Access
The Lee Computer Lab is available to faculty, students, and staff of the USDSM, including
those persons affiliated with the basic sciences program, undergraduate medical education,
and the Division of Health Sciences. The lab is available all hours that the Lee Building
is accessible. Access to the lab itself is by key pad, the code for which can be obtained
from the Student Affairs Office and from USDSM departmental secretaries.
