The Acquisitions Department, working closely with faculty coordinators, and utilizing librarian faculty subject specialists as liaisons, coordinates the selection and acquisition of library resources to support the University's curriculum, research, and teaching. Library resources may include books, serials, cd-roms, compact discs, electronic databases, cassette tapes, microforms, videos, and government documents. The only exclusions are computer software, textbooks, and lab specimens.

The faculty are largely responsible for collection development in their respective academic areas. Each department, division, school, and college has an individual collection development statement to guide selection of library resources. These statements are included in the Collection Development Policy for the I.D. Weeks Library which is continually updated by the Acquisitions Librarian. All faculty are welcome to view the Policy in the Acquisitions Department, 130 I.D. Weeks Library.
