 Richardson

Mabel Kingsley Richardson is most commonly known as the University of South Dakota's first Library Director.  She served in this position for 35 years, from 1907 until 1941.  A South Dakota native, she was born in Lodi to pioneering parents.  She became USD's librarian just after graduating from the University of Illinois.  Mabel Richardson is also known for her poetry, much of which proudly displays her love of South Dakota.  In 1922, one of her poems was chosen to become the alma mater song of USD.  The Richardson Collection, currently in the Archives and Special Collections, is named for her.
