Patrons are encouraged to contact the Archives and Special Collections before visiting as some of our collections and collection materials are housed in off-site storage. Collections and items needed from remote storage will not be available for same day use.

The Archives & Special Collections is the rare books, manuscripts and archives department of the University Libraries. It contains multiple research collections.

The Chilson Collection includes materials relating to local histories, South Dakota history, Native American cultures, and western expansion of the United States. |

The Mahoney Music Collection is one of the most complete collections in the United States pertaining to the violin and violin family instruments. |

The Richardson Collection is made up of distinct manuscript collections focusing on South Dakota's cultural, political, and economic history. |

The USD Archives holds the records of the academic and administrative departments of USD as well as materials relating to the activities of its students, faculty, and alumni. |
