How to Access

Health Index on the South Dakota Library Network (SDLN).

To search this SDLN databases without entering a barcode and password you need to be using a computer located in a library (or on the USD campus) that subscribes to the database through PALS. If you are a patron of a library that subscribes to the database through PALS but you are using a computer located outside of your library or off campus, you will need to logon with your barcode number and password:

Your barcode number is a 14 digit number that can be found on your library card or student ID. It is located below an actual barcode on the card and always starts with a 2.

Initially, your password is your last name. If your last name is more than eight letters long, it is the first eight letters of your last name.

Database Description

Health Index is a database that contains over 150,000 citations for articles from nursing and medical journals, consumer health magazines, and medical newsletters. It also contains full text for over 80,000 of these articles (the exact number of citations and articles is available). Health Index is updated monthly.

When you get the results list of your search, those articles in the list that have an asterisk after the date have full text available. If you select that citation and then select "View Article" you will get the text of the article.

From the basic search page, you can search for material published during the last 5 calendar years. To search for older material or material published in a specific year or range of years, use the advanced search page.
