The I.D. Weeks Library is named after I. D. Weeks, President of the University of South Dakota from 1935 to 1967.
The Weeks Library's general collection contains over 490,000 volumes and the building itself has seats for over 800 readers. In addition, the library contains listening and viewing facilities, as well as an electronic classroom and a Special Collections Department that has an extensive collection of Northern Great Plains materials with particular emphasis on Native Americans. The library is open approximately 100 hours per week.
Together, with the Lommen Health Sciences Library, the McKusick Law Library, and the Vermillion Public Library, The I.D. Weeks Library provides University students and faculty with approximately 673,000 monographs, 5,721 serial subscriptions, extensive AV and microform holdings, and state and federal government publications.
Naturally, the faculty and staff of the I.D. Weeks Library look forward to meeting the research needs of the University community and hope to contribute significantly to their scholarship.
Welcome.
