ethics and humanities

The Sanford School of Medicine's Department of Neurosciences has as one of it's sections, the Section of Ethics and Humanities. Section faculty initiate and are involved in most ethics and humanities activities and teaching at the Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota.

The Section of Ethics and Humanities’ primary goal is to provide a curriculum in bioethics that is integrated throughout the medical school experience.  This curriculum will support and enhance ethical decision-making skills. It will foster compassion, respect and integrity when facing ethical challenges. To this end, the Section for Ethics and Humanities will provide foundational courses in biomedical ethics, elective experiences, and faculty development seminars.

The Section faculty will also work cooperatively with other organizations to sponsor bioethics education that encourages interdisciplinary cooperation and/or provides the community with bioethics related information and resources.

Faculty involvement and activity are centered in three primary initiatives: Curriculum, LifeCircle South Dakota: Partners Improving End of Life Care, and the Center for Ethics and Caring at Sanford Health.
