cultural care in nursing
The purpose for the Indigenous cultural component is to provide health care professionals with alternative resources to ensure established protocol and awareness while providing services to diverse Indigenous populations. Emphasis will be on the Lakota way of healing and how modern medicine can blend with the traditional ways.
This information and awareness will aid future and current health care professionals in the Indigenous life-ways. Materials and resources orientate individuals on Indigenous teachings encompassing the physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional well being. Providing historical and cultural information relevant to health care providers is embraced by many fluent Indigenous speakers and recognized tribal members dedicated towards understanding human relations in a global society.
Objectives of Cultural Care in Nursing:
- Understand the diverse backgrounds of Indigenous People
- Distinguish awareness through types of healing requests made by patient or family
- Provide resources according to relevancy and established protocol for Indigenous healing practices.
- Have the opportunity for further enhancement of Indigenous Practices through interactive technical modules.
- Have understanding to how effective communication facilitates the healing process.
- Understand the family structure of Indigenous People.
