September 2001 Update

The new USDSM West River office construction is moving along rapidly and completion of the project is on schedule and well in sight.  Endocrine, Dermatology and part of Internal Medicine moved into their 3rd floor offices on September 4th and began seeing patients on that day.  Dr. John Wingert, the new Family Medicine physician, began work on the same day amidst all the excitement.  Staff morale is high, and everyone is working hard to make a smooth transition to a beautiful and convenient new facility.  The new facility is to be named The Aspen Center and is located at 640 Flormann Street in Rapid City, approximately 6 blocks north of Rapid City Regional Hospital.

The 2d floor is still under minimal construction but should be completed at the end of next week.  Ultimately this space will be the primary care floor, with offices for Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Obstetrics and Gynecology.  In all  23 physicians, 4 midlevels and 60+ staff as well as the medical school will occupy the building.  The USD School of Medicine will begin moving to the new facility on September 20th.

The parking lot is not yet complete but there is more than adequate parking for patients, physicians, staff, and students who now see patients in the new building.

Patients seeking to contact their physician or make an appointment should use the same phone numbers that they have always used,  341-0169 and 399-0284.

April 2001 Update

Ground was broken on July 7th, 2000 for the clinical office building housing the West River campus of the University of South Dakota School of Medicine.  The first phase of building occupancy is scheduled for July 13th, 2001.  Subsequent phases of occupancy will be scheduled as the pre-existing building is taken down and a parking lot is built.  Gustasson Builders constructed the building.

University of South Dakota School of Medicine teaching and administrative offices will be located on the first floor.  Clinic space will be located on the first, second, and third floors.  The fourth floor of the building will be shelled in for future use.

The 68,000 square foot facility will contain clinical space for thirty providers, a bench and tissue lab, three conference rooms, and a smart classroom. All classrooms will have videoconferencing capabilities.  A wireless network will provide Internet connectivity and application and file sharing through out the building.
