Yankton Campus

The Avera Sacred Heart Yankton Campus of Sanford School of Medicine is home of the Yankton Ambulatory Program which is an integrated, ambulatory-based year-long program for third-year medical students. The program is centered, utilizes problem-based learning and stresses continuity of care.
The campus has the advantage of working within a single ambulatory care facility -- the Yankton Medical Clinic -- which provides primary health care for the community of nearly 14,000 and the surrounding rural area. Education in inpatient care is provided through Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. The Psychiatry experience is at the South Dakota Human Services Center.
Supportive administrative staff assists students and excellent educational facilities are available on the Yankton Campus.
Geographic proximity to the campus of The Sanford School of Medicine in Vermillion allows for basic science input in the clinical years. Educators from Sioux Falls campus lend strength to the students' education by facilitating small group sessions, teaching hands-on clinical skills, and speaking at student-requested clinical symposiums. The Yankton Ambulatory Program has become a model for U.S. and international medical schools.
