The Division of Basic Biomedical Sciences is the sole graduate program of the Sanford School of Medicine. We closely collaborate with USD’s departments of biology, audiology, clinical psychology, and biomedical engineering.
Our division received external research awards in the amount of $8 million for Fiscal Year 2010, which represents 59 percent of the school’s grant and contract income. About 93 percent of our 28 faculty members are actively engaged in scholarly and research activities.
Gov. Mike Rounds has launched the 2010 Initiative with increasing research as one of its priorities. This initiative has led to more funding and increased opportunities for basic biomedical science in the state.
