Birth To 3 - About Us
The state of South Dakota participates in a federal program called the Early Intervention Program for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities (Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) 2004, Public Law 108-446). In South Dakota, this program is called Birth To 3.
Birth To 3 is a program of the South Dakota Department of Education, Office of Educational Services and Supports. Birth To 3 works with other agencies to support families with children birth to three years of age with identifying needs and accessing community services.
Birth To 3 services are available to any family with a child birth to three years of age who has difficulty learning, growing or behaving like other children then their age group or has a medical condition which doctors feel may need special attention. Birth To 3 services are available to any family who has questions about the development of their child birth to three years of age or who have interest in a no-cost developmental screening and/or evaluation.
Birth To 3 at the Center for Disabilities is responsible for providing service coordination for early intervention services to the people of Davison, Hanson, McCook, Minnehaha, Sanborn and Turner counties in South Dakota.
