COE in Minority Health and Health Disparities

The Center of Excellence in Minority Health and Health Disparities (COE) is a partnership between the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, Sanford Research/USD, Great Plains Tribal Chairman's Health Board and Sinte Gleska University that is addressing health disparities among Native American people in the Aberdeen Area Indian Health Service Region and facilitating health disparity research through training and education.

This partnership received funding for a collaborative grant submitted to establish a joint National Center for Minority Health Disparities Exploratory Center of Excellence.

Principal investigator of the COE is Dr. Gerald (Jerry) Yutrzenka. This award is a renewal of a five-year program project (Perryman-PI; Elliott-Co-PI) that created the infrastructure to be competitive for a Center of Excellence award. The COE is funded by a grant (P20MD001631) from the National Institutes in Minority Health and Health Disparities.
