As a family physician, you can help address this critical need. You will have the satisfaction of treating a patient instead of an organ system, disease or condition. You will develop meaningful relationships with patients, helping them to prevent illness and lead a healthy life.
Career Counseling
Our academic and clinical faculty members not only provide a high quality education for medical students and residents, we also act as role models to promote family medicine. We hold various activities to answer questions about family medicine, and we are always available to provide career counseling to interested students.
Leaders
Our faculty members provide leadership in family medicine in a number of ways:
- Leading national organizations
- Serving on national organizational boards and esteemed hospital boards
- Co-editing the state medical journal
- Winning national awards for excellence
- Scholarship through peer-reviewed publications and national presentations
National Leader
Janet Lindemann, M.D., professor and dean of Medical Student Education, was selected to serve on the prestigious Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the accrediting body for U.S. and Canadian medical schools.
State Leader
Susan Anderson, M.D., associate professor, is president of the South Dakota Academy of Family Physicians.
