Sanford School of Medicine M.D. Program

Eligibility Requirements

  • US citizen or permanent resident       
  • South Dakota resident or non-resident with strong ties to the state such as graduation from a high school in South Dakota      
  • At least 64 semester credits of college course work to be considered for admission
  • Take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) within three years of application deadline
  • All applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.10 and a composite MCAT score of at least 23 to be offered an interview. Applicants with a GPA of less than 3.10 may be considered on an individual basis if they have recent and significant coursework in a higher range.
  • Complete the equivalent of two semesters, including laboratory experience where available in the following areas:
    • Biology
    • General (Inorganic) chemistry
    • Organic chemistry (Biochemistry may be substituted for a semester of organic chemistry)
    • Physics
    • Mathematics
  • Agree to the terms of Technical Standards for Admission
