Native American Scholars Program

  • We are a program of the SSOM Diversity Office under the USD Center of Excellence in Minority Health and Health Disparities and are funded by the National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities.
  • We assist Native American students who are interested in or currently attending USD and are in pursuit of careers in medicine, other health care processions and/or health disparity research.
  • Any member of a federally-recognized tribe, interested in higher education leading to careers in healthcare professions is eligible.
How We Can Help You
  • One-on-one academic update meetings to discuss your goals
  • Assist with academic planning and course selection for future health careers
  • Help you find and fill out applications for scholarships, financial aid, and admission to USD health professions programs
  • Assist with tutoring and supplemental instruction
  • Conduct workshops on note taking techniques, study skills, test taking skills, time/money management and more
  • Assist college students with health care shadowing opportunities
  • Connect you with campus and community activities
