Sanford School of Medicine Residencies

 Pediatric Residency Program, 2014

From the Program Director

Welcome to Dr. Joseph Zenelthe Pediatrics Residency Program at Sanford Children's Hospital!

We are the only pediatrics residency program in the Dakotas, and at the end of the 2013-14 academic year we graduated our first class of pediatricians, all of whom have careers in general pediatrics in inpatient or outpatient medicine. This past year we accomplished much. We achieved ACGME accreditation with our next site visit scheduled for 2023. Besides graduating our first class, several second- and third-year residents had either poster presentations at national pediatrics meetings or case reports or review articles in peer-reviewed journals. Finally, several of our second-year residents were accepted into fellowship programs. Our current residents and faculty are very proud of the progress our program has achieved in our four years of existence.

The size of our program, six residents per year, allows the faculty to encourage all residents to develop their individual skills as pediatricians. The distinctive health care characteristics of Sanford Health and the Dakota region give our residents plenty of opportunities to pursue pediatrics in rural, urban and global health settings; to engage in clinical research; and to develop administrative and advocacy expertise.

We hope that you enjoy exploring our site, where you will find additional information about our curriculum, our program benefits, and the experience of living in Sioux Falls. If you are interested in the practice of pediatrics and are game for making a mark in a new residency program and living in a great place, don't hesitate to apply!
