VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota named Ron Bresell as director of Environmental Health and Safety.
As director of Environmental Health and Safety at USD, Bresell oversees The U’s compliance with federal and local regulations regarding occupational health and safe practices in research and instructional laboratories, including acting as USD's Radiation Safety Officer. Bresell has significant experience in radiation safety having served as radiation project officer at the United States Army’s Pacific Environmental Health Engineering Agency in Sagami, Japan, and as part of the Nuclear Weapons Clean-Up project at Enewetok Atoll in the Trust Territories of the Pacific. He also taught Nuclear, Biological and Chemical defense classes to Army Medical Corps officers at the U.S. Army Academy of Health Sciences in San Antonio, Texas.
Following his retirement from the U.S. Army as a major in the Medical Services Corps, Bresell served as associate director of safety at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was most recently the radiological safety officer at Auburn (Ala.) University. Bresell received his bachelor’s degree from Keene State College (N.H.) and a master’s degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in Atlanta, Ga.
Bresell replaces Bob Grindley as director of Environmental Health and Safety at USD.
