VERMILLION, S.D. -- The director of diversity affairs for the Sanford School of Medicine of The University of South Dakota has been elected to a regional leadership position.
Gerald Yutrzenka, Ph.D, was elected to the steering committee of the Association of American Medical College’s Central Region Group on Student Affairs at a meeting last week in Chicago.The Group on Student Affairs (GSA) works to advance medical education and advocate on behalf of medical schools and medical students in admissions, student affairs, financial aid, minority affairs and student records.
Yutrzenka is an associate professor in basic biomedical sciences as well as director of diversity affairs for the medical school and director of the Satellite Office of the Indians into Medicine (INMED) program. which is based at the University of North Dakota. He chairs the Sanford School of Medicine’s Diversity Health Affairs committee and serves on the SSOM Cultural Competence Workgroup. He is also a member of the USD Native American Recruitment and Retention Committee, the Campus Diversity Enhancement Group and serves as a pre-health professions advisor for USD students.
