VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota will host internationally known double bassist and author Barry Green. In addition to performing a recital with pianist Susan Keith Gray, a member of the USD music faculty, Green will also participate in a master class and host multiple workshops beginning Friday, Oct. 16.
Green’s recital with Keith Gray is Sunday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. in Colton Recital Hall, located at the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts. Other scheduled activities include an Inner Game of Music workshop at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 and a Bringing Music to Life workshop at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 17. All events are free and at Colton Recital Hall.
Green, a native Californian, served as principal bassist of the Cincinnati Symphony for 28 years and, more recently, was principal bassist of the California Symphony and Sun Valley, Idaho, Summer Symphony. As former executive director of the International Society of Bassists, he is currently directing a young bassist program for the San Francisco Symphony Education Department. He also teaches privately and at the University of California at Santa Cruz.
The author of the Doubleday book “The Inner Game of Music” with W. Timothy Gallwey, Green has also written seven Inner Game of Music Workbooks published by GIA Music for keyboard, voice, instruments and ensembles.
