USD students tabbed for U News spring semester TV team

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Fourteen students from The University of South Dakota were named to the U News TV team for the 2009 spring semester. In addition to producing, writing and directing for U News, students will serve as reporters and hosts for the program, which is broadcast live weekly at 5 p.m. on Midcontinent Cable (KYOT, channel 21, in Vermillion and many surrounding communities).

Co-producers for U News are Jamie Bulian of Yankton, S.D., and Bryce Riediger of Lawton, Iowa, while Angelica Brackins of Rapid City, S.D., and Devon Schreiner of Mitchell, S.D., will serve as U News co-anchors. Sports anchors Travis Berg of Huron, S.D., and Allyse Thaler from Brookings, S.D., will share scores, conduct interviews and provide highlights in their new roles at KYOT. Sports Director Ryan Moore of South Sioux City, Neb., will also host and produce “Sports Shorts” for U News. Yankton, S.D., native Emily Hunhoff is assignment editor and Angie LaCompte of Winner, S.D., is live correspondent for U News. U Chat hosts for the semester are Hunhoff and Justin O’Connor of Bloomington, Minn., while Andy Buchholz of Tripp, S.D., will provide U Commentary.  Sharing host duties for the “Yote Report” this semester are Abe Booker of Bloomington, Minn., and Jeremy Mollet from Sioux Falls, S.D. Clark Young of Omaha, Neb., is U News editor and technical director for the 2009 spring semester. U News is an opportunity for USD students to gain professional, ethical and leadership experience while creating informational and entertainment programming for a weekly audience.  All U News leadership positions were open to any full-time USD student regardless of their major. U News adviser is Michelle Van Maanen, Ed.D., an assistant professor at The U, while Todd Mechling, a CMJ instructor at USD, serves as adviser for KYOT-TV.
