VERMILLION, S.D. -- It’s a priceless luncheon for students of The University of South Dakota’s Beacom School of Business who get to dine with one of the world’s greatest financial wizards. Twenty USD students have been invited to meet with Omaha businessman Warren Buffett on Friday, Oct. 22 for a noon lunch at Piccolo Pete’s, one of Buffett’s favorite lunchtime haunts.
While it’s difficult for some of the world’s shrewdest investors to meet with Buffett on an annual basis, this will be the fifth time in six years that USD business majors have been invited to spend time with the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. USD students will attend the luncheon along with students from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Villanova University, Pepperdine University, University of Denver and the University of Wisconsin. The trip is organized by the USD Student Chapter of the Financial Management Association.
“This event is something our students always look forward to,” said Angeline Lavin, professor of finance and adviser to USD’s FMA chapter. “Having an opportunity to exchange ideas with a legendary investor, someone who can speak to them about managing finances at an extremely high level, is just an amazing experience for our students and Mr. Buffett couldn’t be more generous with his time,” she added.
In addition to dining at Piccolo Pete’s with the “Oracle of Omaha” on Friday, the group will have a question and answer session and photo opportunities with Buffett as well as tours of Berkshire Hathaway-owned companies Nebraska Furniture Mart and Borsheim’s Jewelry.
