Cross Media Council at The U sponsors' students rights forum

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Whether or not college students should be allowed to wear the T-shirt of their choice to athletic events is just one of the topics being discussed at an upcoming forum sponsored by the Cross Media Council and Political Science League at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 26 at the Al Neuharth Media Center.

USD and SDSU basketball fans bought into the new rivalry by creating slogans and designing T-shirts for the Feb. 15 contest in Brookings. USD student David Janssen created a T-shirt, but it was ultimately banned from the event.  Panelists will discuss why it happened and if it was fair.

The public is invited to attend this open debte at the Freedom Forum.  Dean of Students James Parker, Cassandra McKeown, an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science, and Chuck Baldwin, Journalist in Residence and Volante Faculty Advisor, will discuss freedom of speech and students’ rights and answer audience questions.  Janssen will also be there to share his reaction to the ban.
