VERMILLION, S.D. -- SGA President Blake Alberts and Executive Director of the South Dakota Student Federation Ryan Budmayr will analyze USD’s budget reduction process during a campus forum on Monday, Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Muenster University Center’s pit lounge.
Co-sponsored by The U's SGA and USD’s Cross Media Council, the forum includes discussion of potential South Dakota State Legislature budget cuts – decisions that could affect USD, along with a judgment that could affect the South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship. The forum also addresses how SGA has been lobbying for USD in Pierre. Attendees can learn about the budget process and what they can do to help USD before the state legislature finalizes the state’s budget.
“This is big for The U. I think students, professors, and staff should know how they can help the budget,” said CMC President Travis Berg.
The event will be televised by U.News on Cable Channel 21. The forum is also available to listeners of U.Radio 91.1 and it will be streamed live on the Web at usd.edu/kaor. Additionally, The Volante is blogging the event on its Web site.
The Cross Media Council is a board of representatives of the media entities in the Contemporary Media and Journalism Department. The groups consist of The Volante, U.Radio, and U.News.
The focus of the board is to collaborate on news events while utilizing all aspects of the media. The Cross Media Council hosted a health care forum last semester and, last spring, the group sponsored a successful SGA debate. Due to time constraints a debate could not be scheduled this year.
“It’s a great opportunity for all the journalists and those interested in the C.M.J. Department to spread the word about a topic that is definitely worth discussing,” said Berg.
