VERMILLION, S.D. -- High school students from South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska will discover a world of career opportunities in health sciences on Thursday, Nov. 11 at the 2010 Health Happenings at the University of South Dakota.
Hundreds of participants are expected for this year’s Veteran’s Day event, which begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration at the Muenster University Center followed by an event-filled day beginning with a 9 a.m. keynote address by Nona Bixler, director of Volunteer Services at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, S.D. Health Happenings 2010 also features breakout sessions at various locations on the South Dakota campus by practicing professionals in specific health science interests, including Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Bio-medical Research, Clinical Psychology, Dental Hygiene, Nursing, Kinesiology and Sports Science, and Health Services Administration.
Throughout the day, participants will be able to meet with faculty and health care professionals to learn more about how they can prepare for a rewarding career in health sciences. Additionally, students attending Health Happenings can discuss educational and career information at the Health Sciences Fair on the first floor of the Muenster University Center. Tours of the South Dakota campus will also be provided in the afternoon and counselors from the Office of Admissions will be available at the Muenster University Center check-in desk to answer questions about the application process and scholarship opportunities.
