USD social work professor to speak at awareness event

VERMILLION, S.D. -- A faculty member of The University of South Dakota’s Social Work Program will be a featured speaker Sunday at a candlelight vigil in Sioux Falls to kick off Mental Illness Awareness Week.

Jarod Giger, Ph.D., assistant professor of social work in the School of Health Sciences, will talk about how technology is being used to help adults with serious mental illness as well as to reduce the burden on caregivers.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness South Dakota is sponsoring the 18th annual Candlelight Vigil and eight-block candlelight walk, beginning at 6 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, which is located at 12th and Minnesota Streets in Sioux Falls.
