USD students, faculty seeking donations for Guatemalan trip

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Students and faculty from The University of South Dakota are seeking donations to help them take needed supplies to Guatemala in March.

The group of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Spanish students and faculty will travel to the Central American country March 5 and return March 13. They will assist Hope Haven International in distributing 40 wheelchairs throughout Guatemala. The children and adults receiving the wheelchairs have Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida and other debilitating diseases. Some also are recovering from accidental falls.

People can drop monetary donations off at the Lee Medical Building on the USD campus in Vermillion. You also may donate items like wash clothes, bar soap, small bottles of shampoo, nail clippers, balls smaller than 10 inches in diameter, crayons, coloring books, small stuffed animals, toy cars, small dolls, fleece blankets and combs.
