Open auditions are Aug. 31 for fall USD Theatre productions

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota Department of Theatre will host auditions for “God of Carnage“ and “Avenue Q” beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31 in the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre in the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts. Auditions are open to the public.

“God of Carnage”, which is a Tony Award-winning dark comedy by Yasmina Reza, centers on two couples who are seeking to reconcile a conflict between their young sons. The play calls for two men and two women in their 30s.  “Avenue Q," a hilarious, edgy musical comedy that features puppets in the vein of “Sesame Street," has an ensemble of 10-15 singer/actors with a mix of ages and ethnicities.

Auditions for both shows are combined so actors should prepare three minutes of material that includes one contemporary monologue (comic or dramatic) and 16 bars each from two contrasting songs (one comic).  Actors should also reserve a specific audition time by signing up on the theatre callboard in the east hallway of Fine Arts.

For more information about auditions contact the directors, Eric Hagen at (605) 677-5736 for “God of Carnage” or Matt Nesmith at (605) 677.5905 for “Avenue Q."
