USD to confer degrees to more than 500 at 39th Winter Commencement

VERMILLION, S.D. -- More than 550 candidates will receive degrees during the 39th Winter Commencement at the University of South Dakota at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. South Dakota State Senator Deb Peters of Hartford, S.D. will provide the keynote address at the ceremony inside the DakotaDome.

In addition to the keynote address by Peters, degrees will be awarded by USD President James W. Abbott and music will be provided by the Chamber Singers. Peters was elected to the South Dakota Senate in 2010 after serving three terms in the House. She chairs the Joint Appropriations Committee and is the incoming president for the Streamline Sales Tax Governing Board, Inc., an organization that manages a compact between 24 states aimed at making it easier to do business across state lines. Peters received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from USD in 1997.

Founded in 1862 and the first university in the Dakotas, the University of South Dakota is the only public liberal arts university in the state, with 206 undergraduate and 71 graduate programs in the College of Arts & Sciences, School of Education, School of Law, Sanford School of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, Beacom School of Business and College of Fine Arts.
